Why modern websites are switching to WebP
WebP was developed by Google specifically for the web. It uses predictive coding (borrowed from the VP8 video codec), which lets it compress images more efficiently than the JPEG format from 1992. All modern browsers — Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge — can display WebP images.
