FAQ
Which format should I choose?
JPG for photos without transparency. PNG is lossless — best for screenshots, diagrams and images with a transparent background. WebP is usually noticeably smaller than JPG and PNG at similar quality and works in all modern browsers.
Why is AVIF missing from the list?
The converter checks whether your browser can save AVIF through canvas. If it can’t (many browsers still can’t), the option is hidden so you never get a PNG labelled as AVIF. You can still open AVIF files and convert them to other formats.
What happens to transparency when saving as JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default). PNG, WebP and AVIF keep transparency.
Is EXIF metadata kept?
No. The image is redrawn through canvas, so EXIF data (camera, date, location) is not included in the result.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No, conversion uses your browser’s built-in image tools on your device.
