How in-browser image compression works without visible quality loss
This online compressor uses your browser’s built-in, hardware-accelerated HTML5 Canvas 2D engine and its native image encoders (which apply techniques such as chroma subsampling). All processing happens on your computer’s or phone’s CPU and GPU: the image is never sent over the network, so it stays completely private and there is no upload wait.
Developed by Google and based on the VP8 video codec. Typically 25–35% smaller than JPEG at comparable visual quality, and it keeps the alpha (transparency) channel.
The classic compression standard based on the discrete cosine transform (DCT). Ideal for photos and banners without small, high-contrast text.
Files are processed locally in browser memory using Canvas and Blob URLs. No queues, no watermarks and no limit on the number of images.
