Where transliteration is used
Latin URL slugs follow Google and Yandex recommendations and prevent garbled, percent-encoded links when URLs with Cyrillic characters are pasted into messengers and social networks. The GOST 7.79-2000 standard is used in libraries, documents and information systems, while the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) rules — based on ICAO Doc 9303 — define how names are spelled in Russian international passports and driving licences.
