PDF to JPG: when you need it
- to insert a page or a chart into a presentation or document editor;
- to post a page on social media or send it in a messenger, where PDFs are awkward to preview;
- to upload a document to a form that accepts only images.
How to convert PDF to JPG online
- Open PDF to JPG and drop your PDF into the box.
- Choose the format (JPG or PNG) and the resolution.
- Optionally enter a page range, e.g.
1-3, 5. - Download a single page from its preview, or click “Download selected” to get several pages as a ZIP.
Which resolution (DPI) to choose
PDF pages are measured in points (1/72 inch), so the pixel size of the image depends on the resolution you render at. For an A4 page (8.27 × 11.69 inches):
| Resolution | A4 page in pixels | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 72 dpi (1×) | ≈ 595 × 842 | Thumbnails, quick previews |
| 144 dpi (2×) | ≈ 1191 × 1684 | Screens, messengers, slides |
| 216 dpi (3×) | ≈ 1786 × 2526 | Small text, zooming in |
| 288 dpi (4×) | ≈ 2381 × 3368 | Printing, OCR |
Printing usually calls for around 300 dpi, so the 4× setting is close. For anything that stays on a screen, 2× is a good balance between sharpness and file size.
JPG or PNG for PDF pages?
JPG works best for pages dominated by photos or scanned paper: files are small and the compression is hardly visible. PNG is lossless, so text, thin lines and diagrams stay perfectly sharp with no artefacts around letters, but the files are larger. If a page is mostly text and you need it crisp, choose PNG.
JPG to PDF: combine photos and scans into one file
- Open JPG to PDF and add your images (JPG, PNG or WebP).
- Put them in order with the arrow buttons and remove any you don’t need.
- Choose the page size: A4 or Letter for documents you might print, or “Fit to image” to keep each picture’s proportions.
- Set orientation and margins, then click “Create PDF”.
Tips for clean results: photograph documents in daylight, from directly above, and crop the background before adding them. If the PDF must be small (e.g. for an email size limit), shrink the photos first with an image compressor.
Built-in options on your devices
- Windows: select images in File Explorer → right-click → Print → choose “Microsoft Print to PDF” to combine them into a PDF. There is no built-in PDF-to-JPG export.
- Mac: in Preview, File → Export lets you save the current PDF page as JPEG or PNG; to make a PDF from images, open them in Preview and choose File → Print → PDF → Save as PDF.
- iPhone: select photos, tap Share → Print, then pinch outward on the preview to open it as a PDF you can save to Files.
- Android: open a photo, choose Print and select “Save as PDF” as the printer.
These work, but they are slower for many pages and don’t let you choose the resolution. Need to split or merge PDFs afterwards? Use PDF splitter or PDF merger.
Frequently asked questions
What resolution should I use to convert PDF to JPG?
For viewing on screen or sending in a messenger, about 144 dpi is enough. For zooming into small text or printing, use 216–300 dpi. Higher resolution means sharper images but larger files.
Should I save PDF pages as JPG or PNG?
JPG is smaller and fine for pages with photos or scans. PNG is lossless and keeps text and thin lines perfectly crisp, but files are larger.
Can I convert only some pages of a PDF?
Yes. In our tool enter a page range such as 1-3, 5 and only those pages are rendered; several pages download together as a ZIP.
How do I combine several photos into one PDF?
Open the JPG to PDF tool, add the images, put them in order, choose the page size (A4, Letter or fit to image) and click “Create PDF”.
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. Both tools work entirely in your browser — useful for contracts, IDs and other private documents.
