How to convert gigabytes to gibibytes
Formula: GiB = GB × 0.9313226. Worked example: 128 GB = 119.2093 GiB. Quick estimate: multiply by about 0.9 — the error is 3.4%, fine for everyday use but not for engineering or shopping by exact size.
About these units
A gibibyte (GiB) is a binary unit of 2³⁰ = 1,073,741,824 bytes, while a gigabyte (GB) is 10⁹ bytes. The ~7.4% gap is why a 512 GB SSD shows up as about 477 “GB” (really GiB) in Windows.
